WORCESTER: Jonathan “Jay” A. Higgins, aged 69, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 6th in his home following a brief illness. He is survived by his brother Andrew W. Higgins of Worcester, and his sister Carolyn Bell along with her husband Kenneth of Enfield, CT. Additionally, he is survived by two nephews, Drew and Matthew Higgins, two nieces, Sarah and Whitney Higgins, and three grandnieces. Sadly, he was predeceased by his brother Christopher Higgins.

Jay was born in Worcester to Merrill W. "Bud" and Barbara S. (Shepard) Higgins. He was an alumnus of Doherty Memorial High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from W.P.I.  Jay founded and successfully served as a co-owner of International Ceramic Engineering, Inc. for 37 years. He cultivated and mentored a team of smart and hardworking people to move his vision forward while creating outstanding career opportunities for many in the community.  He cared deeply about his employees who he called his work family and he was adored by them in return.

Jay gave back to the local community in many ways.  He was on the Higgins Armory Board of Directors.  He spent time with Junior Achievement, teaching, inspiring and preparing young people for entrepreneurial endeavors to compete in the global economy.  He always enjoyed working with interns and future engineers each summer, and was known to sponsor many robotics competitions.  He donated to and frequented the Worcester Art Museum where he took a class learning to sculpt and paint.  In addition to these philanthropic activities, Jay set up an annual ICE Donation Fund to support an extensive list of worthwhile charities ranging from small to large and community based to internationally recognized.  A truly kind hearted and generous man.

His passions included golfing at Tatnuck Country Club, traveling to various destinations, engaging in games of pitch, supporting the New England Patriots, reading avidly, and cherishing summers spent at his Lake Quinsigamond residence. Jay was widely recognized for his generosity towards both his family and friends, and notably towards his employees.

A visitation in remembrance of Jay will take place on Thursday, March 14 from 4:00-6:30 PM followed by a service at 6:30 PM at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home located at 61 Myrtle Street in Worcester. His final resting place will be a private burial in Rural Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to, Why Me Sherry’s House, Children’s Friend, or Friendly House.

Jonathan “Jay” A. Higgins will be fondly remembered for his kindness and unwavering devotion to those around him. May he rest in eternal peace.
