Obituary of Jonathan Ronald Smith
Jonathan Ronald Smith, 60, passed away Saturday, July 6 after suffering a cardiac arrest at the cabin he loved.
Jon was born April 13, 1964 to Ruth (Anderson) and Leo Larson in Marshfield, WI. When he was almost two years old, his father Leo was killed in a semi-truck accident.
Ruth and Lonnie Smith were then wed, and Lonnie adopted Jon.
Jon went to grade school in DeSoto, WI area schools, and then the family moved to Lyle, MN where he graduated from High School in 1982.
He graduated from South Central College in Mankato in 1984, after studying Graphic Design under the esteemed Bob Williams.
After college he became a Graphic Illustrator and Photographer for Concept and Design in Nicollet, MN where he eventually became part owner of the business and also of Connect Magazine. After 40 years, he sold out of the businesses and began his fun job at Home Depot in Shakopee, MN. He met many incredible people and loved working there.
Jon married Michele Reinarts in 1999 in New Ulm, MN. They eventually settled in Prior Lake, MN.
Jon was an incredible artist, musician, photographer, and not so bad at basketball. He played bass guitar in bands over the years as well. He enjoyed biking, reading, dog walks, painting, playing guitar, games with friends, hanging out at the cabin, having intense political conversations with friends and strangers and sculpting. His favorite sculpting work was the exterior renovation of the Winona Courthouse, if you are ever there, please check out the gargoyles!
Jon is survived by his wife, Michele; parents, Ruth Irene (Anderson) Smith and Lonnie Carl (Linda Halvorson) Smith; brothers, Rob (Diana), Lee (Jenny), Mark (Shelly); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Ronald Larson; grandparents, Peter and Gertrude Larson, Melvin and Ruth Anderson and Wilber and Pearl Smith.
An Open House Celebration of Life will be held at the Prior Lake VFW on Sunday, July 28 from 11am to 2pm. Lunch will be served from 11:30 am to 1pm. (16306 Main Ave SE Prior Lake, MN).

I met Jon through his brother Lee while working in New Ulm. We all spent many hours playing cards, listening to music and hanging out in the local scene. Jon was very talented in the arts and a good friend to all of us. My condolences to the Smith family.
