Jonathan Love Snead, 27, departed this life on September 5, 2025, after a long battle with mental illness. Born on October 22, 1997, he was the beloved son of Suzanne Brooks Snead and the late Kenny Snead, and the treasured little brother of Erica Ladd King.
For those who knew Jonathan as a young child, he will be remembered as a little boy likened to Dennis the Menace-in both appearance and mischievous actions-with white blond hair and a sneaky grin that got him off the hook too many times to tell. He was inquisitive and loved taking things apart and finding out what made them work. He most certainly contributed to more than a few gray hairs on the heads of the people who raised him, but he was so, so loved. Growing up, Jonathan developed a love of fishing, video games, music and laughing with the people he loved most. He loved his family fiercely and he cherished the relationships he had with them. He was an adored son, father, brother, nephew and uncle and he will be missed forever. A quote that will remain in the hearts of his family is, "Remembering you is easy. I do it every day. But there is an ache within my heart that will never go away."
For years, mental illness had him in a chokehold and although Jonathan sought peace, the pain was too much for him to bear. His family prays that by speaking of his struggle, others will be encouraged to seek help if they're feeling alone and hopeless. We would love to use his death as a way to reach people's hearts in a way we couldn't reach his. If you're struggling and feel like you don't have anyone to turn to, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available with someone to listen 24/7. You can call/text 988 or visit chat.988lifeline.org to instantly connect with someone who can help.
In addition to his mother, Jonathan leaves behind his daughter, Harlyn Rose Dunn; sister Erica Ladd King and husband Austin Michael King; niece Zoey Sophia King; nephew Demetri Alexander King; aunts Maria Snead and Brenda Hilliard and uncles Troy Snead and Lucas Gentry. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmothers Angela Gentry and Gloria Sprinkles; and aunt Caroline Brooks Smith.
A memorial service honoring Jonathan's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Overflow Worship Center, 99 Gospel Lane, Roxboro NC 27573. The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Erica and Austin King, 377 Clay Thomas Road, Roxboro NC 27573.
