Jonathan Stackelin, 36, of Methuen, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 27, 1989, at Lawrence General Hospital, Jonathan was raised and educated in Methuen. He graduated from Methuen High School with the Class of 2007 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Class of 2011.
Early in life, Jonathan's grandfather took him hunting and fishing-experiences that grew into a lifelong love of nature and adventure. For more than 25 years, Jonathan spent every summer camping and boating on Ossipee Lake, often captaining his grandparents' boat on trips to the sandbar. After college, seeking even bigger adventures, Jonathan spent over two years living on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, fully embracing island life.
Upon returning home to Methuen, Jonathan began his career with the Methuen Department of Public Works, where he mastered tasks across all divisions. He enjoyed long weekends with friends spent boating and camping on Lake Winnipesaukee, as well as hunting, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling in Colebrook, New Hampshire. Jonathan also took great joy in teaching others to appreciate nature and the outdoors, especially hunting.
Jonathan had a big heart and the best smile. His laughter and friendly personality earned him many friends. Listed in his phone as "My Loving Mother," Jonathan never failed to take his mother's calls, ending each one with, "I love you."
Jonathan is survived by his loving mother, Jill Stackelin of Methuen; his beloved grandparents, John ("Papa") and Judith ("Grams") Stackelin of Haverhill, MA; his aunt, Joy (Paul) Stackelin Karpowicz; his cousins, Andrew (Eimhear) Karpowicz, Nathan Karpowicz, and Matthew Karpowicz all of Methuen; and his great-aunt, Muriel Lee Boles of Haverhill, along with many other cherished family members and friends. Jonathan was predeceased by his brother Anthony.
In lieu of flowers-which Jonathan believed belonged in nature, not in a vase-please consider a contribution in his name to the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH at nhwildlifeheritage.org/memorial-giving.
