Jose Enrique Gutierrez (1933-2025)
Jose Enrique Gutierrez, born on September 21, 1933, in Laredo, Texas, was sent to his eternal home on July 30, 2025. Jose is survived by his loving wife Adriana (née Lozano) of 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Gutierrez; his parents, Bernardo and Juanita (née Garza) Gutierrez; and 5 siblings.
Jose is also survived and missed by his children Patricia, Joseph (Janet), and John (Christina); his grandchildren, Christine (Stanley), Ryan (Ilse), Jonathan, and Christopher; his 3 great-grandchildren; and his siblings Carlos Gutierrez, Alfredo Gutierrez, and Beatriz Ramos. He leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Jose was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on earth was marked by a strong sense of love and duty to his family, friends and his country. If he made a promise, he always kept it. He grew up on a cattle ranch in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and spent parts of his childhood in Laredo, Texas. After graduating high school, Jose proudly served in the US Army, which he credited with helping him to mature, and which brought about his higher education through the GI Bill. He graduated from East Texas State University in 1959 and received a degree in accounting from Washington University in St. Louis in 1968. He worked for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation for 30 years and went on to work for the US Department of Defense as a civil auditor for another 10 years before retiring.
Jose was an avid runner and cyclist, and he ran many marathons in his life, including the Boston Marathon in 1984. His best time for a marathon was 3 hours and 14 minutes, a time he achieved at age 50. He was also known for his many hobbies, including bee keeping, wine making, photography and rock collecting.
Visitation will take place at Baue Funeral Home in O'Fallon, MO from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Baue Funeral Home in O'Fallon, MO. Interment will be in Our Lady Cemetery & Mausoleum, in Lake St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
