On September 29, 1963 he married Maria Cristina Lugo in Woodside, Queens.
Jose worked as a Chef for 40 years, working at Le Shack, Le Bistro, The Jockey Club and Jason's.
Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his children; Jose L. Lugo Jr., of Carmel, NY., Maryann Hagen of Poughkeepsie, NY. and John P. Lugo of Brewster, NY. Also surviving are his siblings; Juan Lugo, Carlos Santiago, Ramon Santiago, Rafael Santiago, Nandito Gonzalez, Wilfredo Colon, Martha Gonzalez, Anita Santiago, Angelina Lugo and Aida Muccio along with his grandchildren; Richard Lugo, Doni Hagen, Christopher Hagen, Alex Lugo, Jonathan Hagen and Kevin Lugo. He is predeceased by his siblings; Eliseo Lugo Jr., Rogelio Gonzalez and Ismael Lugo.
"Our father loved cooking and making people happy. He loved watching the NY Mets and going to Spring Training games in Florida. And he always was ready to play Dominoes with the family."
