Jose Mendez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - North on Jan. 26, 2026.
Born on September 25, 1944, Jose, fondly known as Joe, lived a life rooted in hard work, love for his family, quiet strength and the simple joys that made him happiest. He spent 30 years working for TxDOT, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. He enjoyed watching vintage westerns, listening to his oldies, watching Spurs and Cowboys games, working on his two trucks, and working around the house. He was known for his vast amount of knowledge and wisdom, his humor and his dedication to his family. Jose leaves behind a legacy of resilience and devotion.

More than anything, Jose loved and cherished his family. He showed his love through action, taking pride in teaching his close family the skills he learned over a lifetime. He found comfort in simple routines, especially his mornings spent drinking coffee with his wife and always being by her side. He was a steady presence, someone who showed his care through his teaching and quiet support.

Jose is preceded in death by his sons, Joe Mendez Jr. and Edward Mendez, his parents, Eugenia and Alfredo, his brothers Jesse, Angel, Rodolfo, and sister Maria.

He survived by his wife, Guadalupe R. Mendez, his daughter Rosalinda (Johnny), his grandchildren Erlinda, Edward, Juan, Edward Jr., and Rachelle, and his great-grandchildren Alfredo Joe, Heaven, Athena and Harmony.

To those who knew him, Jose will be remembered for his laugh, his work ethic and his knowledge. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the many lives he touched.

Services will be held at Castle Ridge Mortuary North, 10901 W Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78254.
