Jose F. Paim

José "Joe" F. Paim, age 86 of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022. José was predeceased by his wife Aida F. Paim. He was the loving father "daddy" of his lookalike son Roger Paim of Wareham and to his "baby girl" daughter Lesley Jo Rose of Attleboro. He shared a special relationship with his long time caregiver and godchild, whom he loved like a daughter Ana C. Silva of Plymouth, MA. He also had a loving bond with his godchild Maria C. Steffy of Kingston, MA. "Puppa" Joe was the proud grandfather of 6 to Bobby, Alexis, Victoria, Ethan, Anthony, and Kristianna and the Great Grandfather, of 4 to Mila, Lariah, Eleanor, and Owen. José is survived by his sister Idalina, of Canada, his brother Antonio of Canada, and his late siblings Joao of Canada, and his other siblings Leonor, Joao, Manuel, Conceicao, and José. He leaves behind his beloved godchildren Ana Gomes and Christina Topete. He also leaves behind his daughter in laws Shawn, Tammy, son in law Richard, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members that he cared for dearly.
José was born in Santa Luzia, Pico on May 15,1936, to the late Manuel and Luzia (Avila) Paim. He attended school in Santa Luzia, Pico and graduated on the Island of Horta, Faial. At 16 José fulfilled a dream of attending the Salesian Institute of St. Joao Basco in Mogofores, Portugal in preparation for a life of service in the church. He served in the Portuguese military with the 17th Infantry Battalion. José worked at the Airport Transport Station for 11 years at the Lajes Air force base on the Island of Terceira, Azores and also served as an accountant and translator there. He and his family later moved to the Unites States in 1976 where José proudly became a U.S. citizen. José had multiple careers over the years to provide for his family and when he moved to America he worked at Revere Copper, landscaping, and for Cranberry Ocean Spray before retiring.
His Island of Pico and the views of his beloved Pico Mountain were among his most cherished memories. His childhood home in Pico is being restored and has become the Paim BookHouse Gallery; a place for art, history, literature, and culture and is run by his nephew Manuel. At the center and the heart of who José was, was his unwavering faith. He was a devoted catholic and enjoyed his daily walks to church. He was a long time parishioner of St. Mary's. José valued education, family, and religion and was a self proclaimed book worm. He enjoyed reading and collecting books about religion, medicine, alternative treatments, geography, and acupressure which he enjoyed practicing on family members. José loved fish Fridays with Ana and family at Woods seafood and trips to the Portuguese markets to enjoy his favorite foods. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, long road trips around the country with his family, studying maps, and lengthy and almost daily conversations with his family near or far. He loved all animals and spoke of his pets with such fondness over the years remembering his buddy Max, Kelly, Fluffy and Mimosa. His unwavering moral & religious compass guided him to be an honorable and gentle man to all. He lived a life of love and kindness. His sparkling blue eyes and his warm welcoming smile will always be remembered. He will live in our hearts forever. We love you peekaboo! May he rest in eternal peace and be welcomed home by all his loved ones and creator with open arms.

A period of visitation will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, Plymouth. A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth. His final resting place will be at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset Street, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth, MA 02360.
