Mr. Jose Antonio Rodriguez, affectionately known as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on June 1, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on December 22, 1943, in
San Antonio, TX, Joe spent his entire life in the city he loved, surrounded by the community that cherished him.
Joe proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, instilling in him a sense of discipline and patriotism that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, he continued to support his fellow servicemen and women through his work in the Reprographics Department at Lackland Air Force Base, from which he eventually retired. His dedication to his craft was evident in the meticulous work he produced, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Education was a valuable part of Joe's life, leading him to pursue studies in reprographics at San Antonio College. His thirst for knowledge and his passion for his field contributed to a successful career and set an example for his family to follow.
Joe was a man of many interests, with a particular love for country music. The tunes of George Strait and the soulful sounds of Janis Joplin often filled his home, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy. His creativity shone brightly through his woodworking, where he crafted everything from whimsical lawn characters to practical outdoor thermometer holders. The wooden Christmas trees and various household items he made were not just objects but reflections of his love and passion.
An outdoor enthusiast, Joe found solace in the serenity of nature. Camping and fishing were not just hobbies but ways for him to connect with the world around him. His adventurous spirit also led him to travel, with casino trips being among his favorite getaways. Yet, above all, Joe's greatest joy was found in the laughter and company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for them was boundless, and the time spent together was the treasure he cherished most.
Joe's best buddy, his dog Tiny, was a constant companion and source of unconditional love. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, reinforcing the bond between a man and his loyal pet.
He was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 70 along with his beloved wife. They would enjoy getting together with fellow members for Sunday bingo where he would call the numbers from time to time and she would bake cakes to donate on bingo Sunday's. They would enjoy their annual Halloween and Christmas parties together along with their friends at the FOE.
Joe was a loving and thoughtful man, remembered for his creativity and the warmth he brought into the lives of those he touched. His legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Juanita C. Castillo-Rodriguez, his devoted children, Elsa Castillo, Ricardo Castillo, Jr., John Michael Rodriguez (Delilah A. Rodriguez), and Charles Andrew Rodriguez, Sr. (Amadita Angelita Rodriguez), Daughter-In-Law Ida G. Rodriguez and his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
Joe's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and heartfelt contributions to his family and community. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, including his grandchildren Danielle Garcia (Charles Hernandez III) and their children Roslynn Ovalle, Natalee Ovalle, Christian Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez; Jose Antonio Rodriguez III (Becky Rodriguez) and their daughter Briana Star Rodriguez; Michael Andrew Rodriguez; Charles Andrew Rodriguez, Jr. (Hailey Elizabeth Rodriguez) and their children Nathan James Bass, Odette Rose Rodriguez; Roxanne Marie Rodriguez and her children Adrian Genaro Ortiz, Jr., Amorina Marie Ortiz, Axel Angelo Ortiz; Raquel Ann Rodriguez and her children Ren Kye Rodriguez-Neeley, Kase Antonio Rodriguez-Neeley; Dakota Storme Rodriguez, and Cheyanne Amadita Rodriguez. Kristy Garcia, Devin Catalan, Jaiden Martinez, Christopher Castillo.
He is preceded in death by his father Rafael Rodriguez, mother Elena Rodriguez, eldest son Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Jr., and grandson Brian Alexander Rodriguez. Their memory and influence were evident in Joe's life, and their legacy will continue to live on through the family they have left behind.
