Jose Sanchez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brookehill Funeral Home on Aug. 23, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Jose G. Sanchez, a man whose wit was as sharp as his carpentry tools and whose heart was as generous as his laughter, embarked on his final journey to the grand casino in the sky on August 19, 2025. Born under the big Texas sky in Bigfoot, Texas, on March 19, 1937, Jose lived a life filled with joy, jokes, and a love that lasted nearly seven decades. Jose's family was his pride and joy. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Inez and Isabel Sanchez, his wife Lucy, and his siblings, Polo, Domingo, Jesus, Rosa, Elvira, Mary, Robert and Emma. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his children, Sylvia Guell (Dean), Diana Sanchez, Mary Alice Sanchez, John Sanchez (Jeanette), and Ronald Sanchez. His grandchildren, Gabriela, Jessica, Joe Robert, Ronald Jr., and Salvador, and great-grandchildren, MaKenna, Hendrix, Ryker, Olivia, and David, will forever cherish the sweet treats, warm hugs, and gifts that were his trademark expressions of affection. He is also survived by a family of nieces, nephews, and countless friends will also feel the void left by this man of endless spirit. After attending school in Charlotte, and growing up in Devine, Texas, Jose honed his skills as a carpenter and spent 25 years as an aircraft mechanic at Kelly AFB, where his hands did as much talking as his mouth. His service didn't stop there; he also worked in Vietnam as a civil service worker, proving his commitment to his country and fellow citizens. Jose's tale is one of true love and devotion. He married the apple of his eye, Lucy Arocha, on February 12, 1955, in Pearsall, Texas. Together, they danced through life, inseparable for 68 years, setting an example of love and partnership that would make even the greatest of romantics swoon. Jose was always quick to share stories about his beloved Lucy and their adventures, often with a punchline that left everyone in stitches. Jose's interests were as varied as the tools in his workshop. He was an avid fisherman, a deer hunter, a casino enthusiast, and an old western movie buff. His crafts were the stars of many craft shows and Bussey's Flea Market. Together with Lucy, he owned a bar named Chicharo's, which was more than just a place to grab a drink-it was where friendships were forged. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A Final Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the funeral home with a procession to depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in First Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Hunter's Pond Rehabilitation, as well as VITAS Hospice for their loving care and support during Joe's illness. Jose G. Sanchez was the epitome of the phrase "handy, generous, and spirited." His legacy is not just in the structures he built or the machines he fixed, but in the smiles he created and the laughter he inspired. So, here's to Jose, a man who never met a stranger, a joke he didn't like, or a day he couldn't brighten. May the fish always bite, the deer always be in season, and the slot machines forever be loose in the great beyond. Rest in peace, dear friend, until we all meet again at the grandest flea market of them all.
