It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Jose Guadalupe Verdin, age 86, of Austin, Texas. He peacefully passed away on July 23, 2025, in the home he built, surrounded by his family, pets and loved ones. Born on November 26, 1938, in Potrerillos, Guanajuato, a small town in central Mexico, Jose was a devoted husband to his late wife, Antonia, and a loving father to nine children and twelve grandchildren. He was a father who provided unwavering love, guidance, and support to his family throughout his life. He is survived by two sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years and their eldest daughter. Also preceded in death were his three younger brothers. After 27 years of dedicated service, Jose proudly retired from the University of Texas at Austin. Outside of his professional life, he found joy in tinkering with tools and taking immense pride in his DIY projects. His passion for cooking began during his time as a Bracero, where he also embraced the opportunity to travel and explore new adventures. A gifted musician, Jose was self-taught in several instruments, including the guitar, accordion, and bajo sexto. He was a key member in multiple bands, including mariachi groups that toured throughout Mexico. Jose's vibrant stories, his music, and his delicious Central Mexican cuisine will forever be cherished and deeply missed by his family, friends, and pets. Services will be announced at a later time.
