Joseph Bateman Obituary

Mr. Bateman was a member of Kempsville Christian Church. He was a jack of all trades: He served our country proudly in the U.S. Army, an auto mechanic, retired business owner of Lew's Hotdogs and a member of the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Indian Tribe. He enjoyed music and dancing and was devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Bateman. They raised five children: Sheila Sanders (Mack), Sharon Stewart, Barbara Melton, Bruce Bateman, Lewis Bateman and granddaughter, Priscilla Howton and also leaves behind son, Joseph Michael Bateman, 26 grandchildren and 41great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Patricia Penello, Pamela Stalls and many family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at Kempsville Christian Church. 5424 Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach 23462.
