Joseph Gene Beers

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our sweet and gentle Gene. Surrounded at Hospice House by his loving family he quietly left us for the open road on his Heavenly Harley. Born in Pittsburgh, PA during WWll he grew up in a house full of Aunts and Uncles who dearly loved him. Directly after graduation from Carrick High he joined the Navy as an Electricians Mate In 1959. Home Ported in Naples,Italy he immersed himself in the culture, especially the food. On leaving the Navy he joined his family in Palm Desert, Ca. There he graduated from The College of the Desert, attained his pilot's license and led a group of motorcycle enthusiasts called "The Elephants". He moved to Northern California where he met his wife of 47years, Gloria. There He drove Charter buses for Peerless Stages. They moved from the Bay Area to Bellingham, WA in 1979 after having their son, Christopher and daughter, Genevieve. He soon started work with the City of Bellingham Water Dept. He spent 8 years there and in that time his daughter Rita was born. He became a truck driver after leaving the water dept. He truly loved driving Semi's. It was in his DNA. When he wasn't working he loved to cook for his family. While standing at the stove he passed on his love for Harleys, cool cars, new recipes and tall tales of adventure (some were actually true). He is preceded in death by his mother Anna (Tichansky) Beers, Adopted father Gordon Beers, Biological father( who never knew he existed) Robert Gene DiMaio and his brother Jeffrey Beers. He is survived by his wife Gloria (Case) Beers of Bellingham, son Christopher Beers of Bellingham,Wa, Daughters Genevieve Beers of West Linn, Or and Rita Garcia of Lynden, Wa.3 grandsons Teo Porter of Lynden, Xavier and Maverick Beers of Bellingham. He also had 3 half sisters in Pennsylvania, Lana, Cheryl and Robin that he found in 2018. In 2023 he got to be with all 3 of them back in Pa. along with many nieces and nephews. Also brother Wayne Beers of Rancho Mirage, Ca There will be Memorial picnic and send off on July 27, 11:00 am at Larrabee State Park followed by a picnic at Gene and Gloria's home. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity.
