It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Wilford Bitson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. Joseph was born on May 7, 1948, in Fremont, Michigan, where he crafted a life filled with family, passion, and love. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in his hometown of Fremont, MI, at the age of 76.
Joseph, affectionately known as "Joe," will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Bonnie Ann Bitson. Together, they cultivated a beautiful family, leaving a legacy through their children: Koreylee (Gloria) Berry, Danean Berry, Douglas Berry, Karie (Shane) Purcell, Keven (Donna) Berry, and Dustin Bitson. Joe's loving spirit will continue to shine through his 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, who filled his life with joy and pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law; Louie (Kathy) Ketz and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Bitson; his siblings, Hazel (Earl) Meyer, Paul Bitson, and Linda Bitson; as well as his father-in-law, Ernest Ketz, and mother-in-law, Alice Gunnerson Ketz.
A master wood craftsman by trade, Joe spent his years creating exquisite pieces that spoke to his artistry and dedication. His works remain as a testament to his skill and passion for woodwork. Outside of his workshop, Joe cherished his time with family more than anything else. He was known for his love of NASCAR, traveling, his granddaughter's delicious cookies, and above all, the deep bonds he shared with his loved ones. For over two decades, Joe and Bonnie were active members of the Muskegon Chapter Gold Wing Road Rider's, where they formed enduring friendships and shared countless adventures.
A celebration of Joe's remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing all who knew him to gather in remembrance and reflection. Arrangements have been entrusted with Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont Chapel.
