Joseph P Carra Sr

Joseph Carra of Dunmore passed Tuesday at Geisinger – CMC surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years Lois Lavin Carra who cared for him with unconditional love during the later years of his life. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose Torchia Carra and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. He was a member of Saint Mary's Church,Dunmore. Prior to retirement he was employed by the University of Scranton.

Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. To know Joseph was to love him. There were few people he met throughout his life that he did not leave a lasting impression on with his infectious laugh and his humorous stories. He will be sadly missed by his family and all of his friends. Joseph was a die-hard New York Yankee, Penn State, and Dunmore Buck fan. His grandchildren were the light of his life taking great joy in seeing each graduate from college. He loved watching his granddaughter, Lauren, play basketball for the Dunmore Lady Bucks and the University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens; missing only one home game in four years while at Delaware.

Also surviving are a son Joseph P. Carra of Dunmore, a daughter Ann Marie Carra Bielinski of Dunmore, four grandchildren; Anthony Carra of Dunmore, Lauren Carra of Throop, Tyler Bielinski of Dunmore, and Alyssa Bielinski of Washington, D.C; sister in law Ann Marie Fortese and husband Benjamin Fortese of Scranton; brother in law along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers Sam, Frank ,and Pat Carra; five sisters Lillian and Jenny Carra, Nancy Brink, Vicky Langan, and Mary Joyce; and daughter in law Mary Beth Carra.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Church 322 Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment Dunmore Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

Friends may call Saturday morning from 8:30 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home 2025 Green Ridge Street, Dunmore.
