Dr. Joseph P. Caterinichio, DDS, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected member of the Anchorage community, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones.
Joe was born on June 27, 1941, in Los Angeles, California, to Gaspar and Angelina Caterinichio. As a young boy, he moved to Alaska and proudly graduated from West Anchorage High School in 1959. He went on to attend Gonzaga University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Creighton University in 1967.
In 1964, Joe married the love of his life, Antonina (Nina) Costantini. Together, they made Alaska their home and raised six children, all talented athletes and strong students. Family was the heart of Joe's life and his greatest source of pride.
After completing dental school, Joe served as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps, stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Following his military service, he returned to Alaska, where he dedicated more than five decades to practicing dentistry, caring for generations of Alaskans with compassion, skill, and a warm smile.
Joe had a deep love for Alaska and everything it offered. He was an avid pilot and outdoorsman, spending countless cherished days flying his plane or relaxing at Big Lake with his family.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Nina; his sister, Mary Caterinichio; his children, Angelina, Lisa, Joey, Gaspar, and Nina; their spouses; his 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Teresa Ann, who passed away in 2018.
A man of quiet strength, deep faith, and endless generosity, Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Cathedral, 800 W 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK, on May 10th at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to the Chugiak-Eagle River Food Pantry, P.O. Box 770322, Eagle River, AK 99577.

Joe was my cousin (our mothers were sisters). He was a great family man with a large personality. I remember flying from NJ to Anchorage for the wonderful visit to his home in 2002. He, Nina and the family made us feel at home. May he rest in peace and my sincere condolences to Nina and the family. We will all miss him.
