Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel on Mar. 2, 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Patrick Colopy, lovingly known as Joe, at the age of 87, on February 29, 2024. Joe's life began on January 14, 1937, in
Danville, Ohio, where he was welcomed by his parents, the late Donald and Florence (Blanchard) Colopy.
Joe's life was forever changed on a blind date, where he met the love of his life, Alice Jane (Sapp). Their first date, a trip to see the Alamo, marked the beginning of over 62 years of shared adventures, laughter, and unbreakable devotion.
Joes's life was deeply rooted in his faith, as he remained a devoted lifelong member of St. Luke and St. Vincent Catholic Church. After graduating from East Knox High School in 1945, Joe served his nation with honor. He dedicated two years of his life to the United States Army, during which he was stationed in Germany. Upon completing his military service, Joe found a fulfilling career at Therm-O-Disc in
Mansfield, Ohio, where he devoted 32 years of his life.
Joe's love for animals was a lifelong passion that started in his early years. It came as no surprise to those who knew him that he had a variety of unique pets during his youth. Coon hunting became one of his pastimes, and he often went hunting with his wife, Jane, by his side.
In the autumn of 1967, Joe and Jane purchased a farm in
Fredericktown, Ohio. It was here that Joe's love for horses led him down the path of raising and training horses as well as building a boarding facility that is still in operation today. Joe shared his passion for horses with his family which has continued with all four of his children establishing their own horse facilities.
Joe is survived by his wife; sister-in-law Twila Colopy; his children: Patrick James Colopy of
Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Alisha (Randy) Shank of
Auburn, Indiana, Teresa (Gary) Smith of
Fredericktown, Ohio, and Tamara (Kelly) Snell of
