Joseph Lee Cox, age 44, passed away from a drug overdose on January 4th, 2024, near Rolla MO, after a long battle with addiction that he fought for years to overcome.
Silence would mean Joseph's death was in vain, but if one person's life is saved by his story, we would tell it a million more times. In honor of Joe's life, we ask that the truth be spread, and awareness be raised in regard to this horrible epidemic.
Joseph was born November 18th, 1979, in Salem, Mo and grew up in Tupelo, MS and Haughton, LA. He had a generous heart and soul and always looked for the good in people and never failed to put the needs of others before his own. A truly gifted Jack of all trades, from carpentry to mechanics and everything in between, there seemed to be nothing Joe couldn't do and do extremely well. With these skills he was always looking to see how he could help another along the way, many times putting their needs before his own.
Joe was a man of strong faith and, through it all, never turned his back on God. Known for his love of the outdoors, Joe enjoyed spending time at the river and fishing. He was an amazing cook and enjoyed the company of family and friends over a pot of his "famous" gumbo.
Joe will be remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering faith, generous spirit, giving heart and beautiful and contagious smile.
To honor and celebrate Joe, family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and service on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, at Null and Son Funeral Home at 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla, MO. The visitation will begin at 10:30 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Following the service, all are welcome to join together in honor of Joe's memory for a lunch at Central Community Church of God, 400 N Olive St, Rolla, MO.
Joe is survived by his son, Jonathan Bryce Flores; his parents, Larry and Carolyn Cox; brothers, Jeremy (Jackie) Cox, Douglas (Naomi) Whittingham, Johnny (Theresa) Dye; sisters, Natania (Jay) Darnell, Melissa (Michael) Rafferty, Heather Benney; Birth mother, Vicky Mauzey; Grandparents, Dottie (Richard) Chapman; Nieces, Vallorae, Ashlynn, Evangeline, and Laynie Cox, Kalayna Goad, August Delk, Christina Brown, Caitlin Jordan and Jayana and Inez Dye, Tessa Rowden, Trista Benney and Trisha Benney; Nephews, Logan Cox, Evan and Tyler Smith, Maison Whittingham, Daniel Balog, Joshua and Malachi Dye, Garrett and Joseph Brown, Malikye and Miguel Delafuente, Loadyn Sandidge, Noah Brown, Tanner Benney and Tyson Sewell; and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and numerous friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his infant son, Joshua Cole Flores; sister, Melissa Renee Cox; Birth Father, Dolan Glenn Light; Grandparents, Willie and Lucille Scott, Douglas and Rachel Cox and Lois Light.

Joey was my very first roommate at the Tupelo Children's Mansion. They always put older kids with younger ones to help, but he was the one that had to explain dorm life to me.
