Joseph J. Derillo, Sr., 73, of Marlton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, New Jersey. Born on June 12, 1951, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Joseph's life was one marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
Raised in Roselle Park, New Jersey, by his parents, Frank and Ruth Derillo, who predeceased him.
Joseph's professional journey spanned an impressive 45 years in the railroad industry. His career began at Penn Central, transitioned to Amtrak, and culminated in his influential role as an international union representative with TCU-IAM. His work was not just a job but a testament to his character, as he tirelessly advocated for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joseph was a man of many passions. Since 1972, he dedicated himself to the sport of wrestling as a high school wrestling official. His love for the sport and his commitment to fairness and integrity on the mat earned him the honor of being inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2023. This recognition was a testament to his impact on the wrestling community and the respect he garnered throughout his officiating career.
An avid New York Giants fan, Joseph's enthusiasm for his team was unwavered. His love for sports also extended to the golf course, where he relished the challenge of the game and the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.
Above all, Joseph's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan E. Derillo, nee Wacker. Their partnership was a beautiful example of love and mutual support. Together, they raised a family that was Joseph's pride and joy: his son, Joseph J. Derillo, Jr., and his wife Brittany; his daughter, Noel Marini, and her husband, Steve. Joseph's legacy continues through his grandsons, Dominic Derillo, RJ Marini, Benjamin Derillo, Chase Marini, and Andrew Derillo, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and the memories created with his grandsons will be treasured forever. Joseph's life was also enriched by the presence of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
A visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:20 am, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 100 Willow Bend Rd, Marlton, NJ 08053. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 am, at the church.
