Richard E. Schafer

Richard E. Schafer, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 80.

Richard was born on October 26, 1944, to Thomas and Alvonia Schafer (nee Brickwood) of Camden, NJ. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas and his sister Alvonia.

As a young man, Richard recognized the future growth of technology and attended school to learn computer programming. He spent 35 years with Cigna Insurance, where he continued to grow professionally and ultimately held multiple management positions.

His cherished wife of 61 years, Joan (nee Baranello), stood by his side as a beacon of unwavering support and love. They created a beautiful life together, raising their children, Marlena Arfuso (Bryan Pescina), Jeff Schafer (Kim), and Melissa Carpineto (Nick).

Richard adored and nurtured his growing family with grandchildren: Anna (Amber), Angela (Michael), Anthony (Karina), Emily, Jonathan, Olivia, and Nicholas. A loving poppy to Aria, Mikey, and Alyssa, Richard's loving spirit and tender care were gifts that will continue to guide them throughout their lives.

Upon his retirement, Richard relocated to Naples, Florida, where he started a small home watch business. He enjoyed bowling, poker, and lunch out with Joan and their new friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday, August 26th, from 10-10:45 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 100 Willowbend Rd., Marlton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday at the church. Entombment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
