Joseph A. Dwyer, a resident of Mahopac, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born in New York City on February 10, 1943.
Raised and educated in New York City, Joe had an active involvement in scouting during his youth. He had a fondness for the outdoors, swimming, and horseback riding. Trips to Saratoga were among his favorite pastimes, and he was an accomplished and passionate bowler. For over four decades, he owned and operated the Omni Chauffeured Car Service of Mahopac, Inc.
Joe married Barbara Michaels on November 14, 1964, at the Good Shepherd Church in New York City. They initially resided in Manhattan and Yonkers before settling in Mahopac in 1979.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara, and his children: Robert and his wife, Penny, of Mahopac; Christopher of Mahopac; Denise Bell and her husband, Rickie, of Carmel, NY; and William and his wife, Elizabeth, of Carmel. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel, of Hoosick Falls, NY, and his three cherished grandchildren, Robert, Brandon, and Lily Rose. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Hughes Dwyer, and his sister, Dr. Marjorie T. Landes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, from 9-11 am at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac. His cremains will be interred at a later date.
