Joseph Eames Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Center - Scott Chapel on Jan. 12, 2026.
Joseph "Joe" Eames, of New Albany, IN, passed while surrounded by his family on January 8, 2026, after an illness.

Joe was born on June 11, 1956, in Pottsville, PA, to Joseph Eames, Sr. and Jean Conners Eames. He graduated from William Allen Sr. High School in 1974, after which he enlisted in the US Army. His first post was in Fort Greely, Alaska, which ignited his lifelong long of travel. The Army eventually took him to Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where he met his beloved wife, Beverly. Joe retired from military service after 23.5 years, and then built a vibrant second career in education. Joe attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Louisville (BS, M.Ed. ABD), studying higher education and administration. A printmaker by trade, Joe taught printmaking at Bullitt Central High School and Jefferson Community and Technical College. He eventually transitioned into the role of Academic Dean at JCTC. Joe served on the Bullitt County School Board, and was a passionate advocate for vocational tech and trades.

Joe was a lover of adventure and travel (especially international travel). He was a history buff, a stained-glass artist, a model-train-enthusiast, and a collector of many things. In recent years, he and Beverly enjoyed RV trips and spending time with their grandchildren, who knew him as "Pop." When his health permitted, Joe enjoyed worshiping with his church families at Charlestown First Methodist and New Chapel GMC.

Joe is survived by his cherished wife of nearly 42 years, Beverly, nee Motsch; their two daughters, Kate Muhlbaier (RC) and Tina Seal (Al); five grandchildren, Samantha Seal, Hannah Allman (Travis), Joseph Muhlbaier, Gabriel Muhlbaier, and John Muhlbaier; an expected great-grandchild; his sister, Karen Gilbert (Kevin); and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jean Eames; grandparents; and his brother, Timothy.

Joe's life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Charlestown First Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. Pastor Ken Willman will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make gifts to Charlestown First Methodist Church.

Rudy and I worked with Joe, first at Bullitt County Area Vocational School and then at Jefferson Vocational School which later merged with JCC. Joe was a good friend and colleague. He had a great sense of humor. Rest in peace, friend.

I had the pleasure of knowing Jo for more than 50 years first as a student of mine at the university of Louisville and later, as a colleague at Jefferson community and technical college, I appreciated his enthusiasm for life and his wide range of interests. He was a good friend to me and he was very interested in what was best for students. I enjoyed our many years of friendship, and I hope his many friends will be a comfort to the family in their time of loss.

My condolences to Beverly, Kate and the rest of the family. Joe was a truly one of a kind friend. I will miss him. He had asked me just a couple of weeks ago about going to New Orleans this summer. That would have been a fun time. RIP my friend.
