James Richard Middleton

James Richard Middleton, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
He was born in Jeffersonville, IN to the late Margaret Ellen Nachand and James Richard Middleton. He attended Jeffersonville High School where he played Varsity football. In addition, he was a skilled, competitive Archer. He served in the US Marine Corps and carried the rank of Corporal, stationed in Hawaii.
Although he was a Welder by trade and worked at the US Census Bureau and Jeffboat, his passion was Art, having studied Art at various schools including Indiana University Southeast. He also prided himself in being very self-sufficient in that he became an expert Organic Gardener and Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Patricia Middleton Wilcoxson.
He is survived by his daughter: Michelle Middleton Morgan(Paul), his son: Marc Middleton, his grandchildren: Mackenzie O'Brien(Emmett) and Conner O'Brien(Tina), and his dear friends: Bruce Oldham and Rhonda and Kevin Jewell.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday January 28, 2026 at the Oak Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes(1846 E. Oak St.) followed by entombment in the New Albany National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9 -10 AM Wednesday before the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Robley Rex VA Medical Center.
