Joseph Daniel "Dan" Elpers, 82, of rural Evansville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born on March 19, 1943, in Ft. Branch, Indiana to the late Clemens and Estella (Yellig) Elpers. He was a 1961 graduate of Ft. Branch High School and was a painter and member of Painter's Local 156 for over 40 years before retiring. Dan enjoyed woodworking and was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the Knights of St. John at St. Wendel, the Armstrong Recreation Center and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving Dan are his wife of 61 years, Vicki (Wildt) Elpers; a daughter, Theresa (Tim) Schickel; sons, Joseph D. (Dana) Elpers, Jr, Mark (Missie) Elpers, Tim (Donna) Elpers and Jeff Elpers; two brothers, Tom (Carol) Elpers and Paul (Martha) Elpers; grandchildren, Tyler Schickel, Victoria Scheidecker, Tanner Schickel, Joshua, Kaleb and Makenna Elpers, Makayla and Manning Elpers, Brittney Dutton and Mitch Ashby; nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to parents, Dan was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Eaton and two brothers, Bill and Bob Elpers. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Graveside services and burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Ft. Branch, Indiana at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, following the luncheon at St. Wendel Church. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendel Catholic Church or Heart to Heart Hospice, 610 E. Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
