Thomas E. Elpers, Sr.
Louisville, KY Tom "Papa" Elpers, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Baptist Hospital East. He was born on December 26, 1935, in Fort Wayne, IN, to Joseph E. Elpers and Marie Hackmiller Elpers. Papa was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jane Miranda Elpers (Doppi); his children Tony (preceded) (Wendy), Rose Wetterer (Jim), Barbara "Beeps" Shearn (David), Paul (Krista), Susan Inman (Keith), Thomas E., Jr. (preceded) (Ann Marie), Joey (Marty), and Vincent (Christina); 19 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. In addition, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Elpers.
Tom was a 1954 graduate of St. Xavier High School. He was a retired Photo Engraver from Standard Gravure. He was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he was a coach.
Papa volunteered for many years at Sacred Heart Schools. He was a recipient of the Heart Award and received an Honorary Diploma from Sacred Heart. He was also a Member of the Saint Xavier Alumni Association and the Knights of Columbus.
Among Papa's greatest joys was supporting all his children's and grandchildren's activities, especially their sporting events.
Putting in the pool was one of his best gifts to his family, friends, and neighbors, creating lifelong memories for all.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews.
