Marjorie Elpers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory on Feb. 21, 2026.
Marjorie Lou (Gray) Elpers, 95, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Anderson, Indiana.

She was born October 8, 1930, in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of James Boren Gray and Lucille Irene (Robards). She grew up in Fort Branch, Indiana where she met and married her husband Donald Oscar Elpers. She and Don moved to Anderson, Indiana from Fort Branch to establish a branch of Emge Packing Company.

Marjie was loyal to Notre Dame, regularly found lighting candles in the Grotto and walking campus on game day. She treasured the time spent playing cards with dear friends, reading a good book and drinking coffee all day long. She collected an impressive amount of kitchen gadgets and cooked straight from her infamous Messy Cookbook.

She is survived by her two sons, Brian Donald (Deborah) Elpers, and Kevin Lee (Ellen) Elpers, seven grandchildren, Michael (Ellen) Elpers, Melissa (Drew) Conley, Eric (Heather) Elpers, Matthew (Monica) Elpers, David (Lacey) Elpers, Laura Ann (Justin) Pierce, and Kate (Kevin) Iwanski; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Don, her daughter, Ann Renee, and sisters, Phyllis Ann (Gray) Schmitt and Bettye (Gray) Garrett.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and team members at Primrose Retirement Silver Lace and to ViaQuest Hospice for their kind support and excellent care shown to Marjie during her illness.

To honor her, Marjie's grandchildren will stay up too late playing cards at Lake Wawasee and laugh as loudly as they can.

A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson. A burial will be held on March 7, 2026, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Fort Branch, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson, or to a charity of your choice.
