Uncasville - Joseph Ettl, Jr., 92, of Uncasville, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025. Born on October 10, 1932, in Hartford, CT, he was the beloved son of Josef Ettl Sr. and Elisabeth (Windl) Ettl.
Joe was a proud lifelong resident of Connecticut, raised in Hartford before settling in Uncasville, where he and his wife, Elizabeth, shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.
A man of intellect and integrity, Joe earned his bachelor's degree in general engineering from Trinity College in Hartford and went on to receive his master's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1960. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 as a Nike Guided Missile Analyst at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico.
Following his service, Joe dedicated more than three decades to education as a professor at Thames Valley State Technical College, where he inspired countless students from 1964 until his retirement in 1995. His passion for teaching never diminished. He continued to share his love of learning by tutoring math free of charge, enriching the lives of many even after his retirement.
Joe was a devoted churchgoer and a man of steadfast faith. He also held a deep appreciation for the world around him, finding joy in traveling and ocean cruising alongside his loved ones.
Along with his wife, Elizabeth, Dad is survived by his son Joseph Ettl, and his grandson, Matthew Ettl.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, CT. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 52 West Town Street, Norwich, CT. Burial with full military honors will take place at Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Turnpike, Norwich, CT.
Joe's life was marked by kindness, faith, and service to others. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
