Joseph W Felker, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at his home.
He was born in Winamac, Indiana, on January 1, 1937 the son of Joseph Adam and Elsie (Bowers) Felker.
On June 10, 1956, in Michigan City, Indiana, Joseph married the love of his life, Henrietta Robbins, who preceded him in death in 2015. He is also preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild, Andrea Felker.
Joseph spent most of his life in Northwest Indiana, graduating from Winamac High School in 1955. He was a journeyman lineman, retiring from Koontz and Wagner in 2002. Joseph was a member of IBEW 1393 out of Indianapolis, a member of the Michigan City Moose Club and, along with his father, was a member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge. He was a man of many interests. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Cubs and the White Sox, the Bears and the Boilermakers. Joseph also loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, or working in his vegetable garden. He was known for cooking his tasty liver and onions and baking peanut butter cookies with his wife and granddaughter. When his wife was living, they bowled together in bowling leagues, winning many trophies, and traveled around the U.S. by car or motorhome. And while Henrietta was a Catholic and he was a Protestant, Joseph faithfully helped her make beaded rosaries to donate every year. His special passion was his love of old steam engine trains, which brought back special memories of his childhood, and his beloved grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Carl E. (Paula) Felker of Columbiaville, MI, Curt E. (Brenda) Felker of La Porte, IN; grandchildren, Carl Felker, Jr. and Courtney (Charles) Schoof, Marianna IDerek) Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Parker, Jacqunda and Jospeh; several cousins, nieces and nephews, including close nephew, Dennis Lower.
