Joseph Gattuso Obituary
Joe graduated from South Boston High School in 1948 as a three-sport athlete and captain of the marching band and was elected to the Boston Symphony Band from 1946- 1948. He then went to Boston University where he earned a B.S. in Education and a master's degree in Administration and Supervision.
While working his way through college, Joe worked at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club and coached its varsity basketball team to the city-wide championship in 1952. He also played minor league baseball for the Chicago Cubs Single-A team.
Joe worked in education for over forty years in the Newton school system. He was the youngest Principal elected in Newton at the age of 26 and selected by the Newton Chamber of Commerce as Outstanding Man of the Year in 1962.
Joe and Helen met in 1948 in Boston, marking the start of 74 loving years together. A dedicated family man, he was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great children. Joe was kind and humble and loved by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen V. (Regan) Gattuso; his three children, Joseph J. Gattuso and his wife Jane of Chichester, N.H.; James R. Gattuso and his wife Rose of Raleigh, N.C.; and Ann Marie Carroll and her husband David of Plymouth, MA.; as well as his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services will be private.

Mr. Gatusso was the principal of my grammar school (Franklin) when I attended during the 1950´s. I remember him fondly as a very nice man.
