Joseph Kenneth Germain, Jr (Jay to those who knew him), passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025 at The McCall House in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Jay was 79.
The son of Joseph Kenneth Germain, Sr and Tula Hilty Germain, Jay was born on June 12, 1946. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School in Jacksonville, FL in 1964 and from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. He then went on to receive his Master's of Science in Industrial Engineering from Louisiana State University in 1973. Jay's career path took him to numerous companies to include Exxon Oil, East Chicago Refining, and Daniel Construction Company which merged with Flour Corporation. He served as CEO of PCM, Inc from 2000-2006, and was most proud of his work as Director of Business Development for Froehling & Robertson, Inc from 2008-2010. He retired and moved to
Greenville, SC in 2010 with his first wife, Donna Wright Germain, who predeceased him in December of 2013.
Jay was an avid golfer; a member and Board Director at Fox Run Country Club. He enjoyed listening to jazz, fine dining, and a good bottle of wine. He was a fan of history with an inquisitive mind which led him to online courses in religion, anatomy, and researching stock market investments. Also, serving as a host family for foreign college students, one of which was Olya Antle, from Romania with whom he developed a lasting friendship.
In 2017, Jay married the second love of his life, Ann LaGrone Bull. This brought Jay into a beautiful new family he grew to love and cherish. He is survived by his wife, Ann, two beautiful stepdaughters, Ann Clarke (Cotton) and Elizabeth Reames (Rick) and considered himself a surrogate to Ann's five beautiful grandchildren, William and Margaret Ann Clarke, and Eliza, James and Caroline Reames. He also leaves behind two sisters, Dorothy Germain Chapman (Dwight) and Lillyan Germain Stanton (Robert).
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at Christ Church Episcopal on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
