Joseph Wiley Harmon, Jr. 77, of Carmi, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on May 19, 1946, in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of Joseph Wiley and Beulah Margaret (Roy) Harmon. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He attended Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Illinois. Joseph worked as an electrician. He was a member of the Electrical Union IBEW. Joseph worked for Healy Electric in Enfield for many years. He was a member of the Carmi VFW and the Norris City American Legion. Joseph was an avid gun hobbyist, and was a member of the Carmi Rifle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved being outdoors. He liked to collect and work on watches as well. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being with his grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Stella (Adam) Oxford of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Sebastian Lee Oxford and Brieanna Marie Oxford; a brother, John Harmon of Rockford, IL; a cousin, Cleatus (Lori) Roy of Norris City, IL; and a close friend, Jimmy (Sandra) Lipe of Mt. Vernon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life for Joseph Harmon will be held at the Carmi VFW, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, to assist with funeral expenses. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
