BROOKTON - Joseph Patrick Hughes, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025 in his home. Born on March 29, 1944 in Valley Stream, NY. Joe was the beloved son of Joseph and Christine Hughes-McLoughin.
Joe was a hard-working young man working construction early on installing septic systems in eastern Long Island and enjoyed fishing during his time off. He was later drafted into the US Army and stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He became a private in the US Army where he served driving army vehicles to support the motor pool and escorting the Colonel. After the Army, he worked driving limousines between all of the New York airports & learned his way navigating the NYC and Long Island area. Joe met his wife Geraldine (Geri), married and started his life remodeling their first home in Long Island. They had 2 children, Kara and Joe.
Joe's final career started to take hold working in the stock market as a clerk at the AMEX stock exchange. From here, Joe learned how the market worked and purchased his own seat and book to actively trade on the exchange floor.
Family vacations included trips to Lake George, NY on his Boston Whaler to teach his children to fish, catch frogs and turtles. His wife Geraldine passed away too early in life and Joe had to raise his children as a single parent. Joe moved the family to Connecticut to reboot his life and later re-married Therese. Therese and Joe had a daughter, Jacqueline. Joe and Therese later divorced and Joe moved to New Jersey to enjoy retirement and lived near the water. Joe frequently went on excursions to hike, fish, work with wild life to help them relocate to rural wooded areas. Late in life, he moved to Maine to live in the woods with a lake to continue doing what he loved most. There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix or rig or drive. Joe was living his best life working on his property in Maine.
Joe is survived by his children Kara, Joe and Jacqueline, his sister Virginia M. Carroll, spouse Robert and nephew Daniel and other loving family members and friends.
A private memorial service will be held for the family.
