Joseph “Joe” Andrea Garin found peace on the night of October 9, 2024 at the age of 65. Joe died at Presbyterian St. Luke’s hospital in his sleep after a difficult battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He will be sorely missed by his beloved wife, Kathie, his children, Melissa Hamblin, Tony, Vince, Alex, and Auri Garin, his seven grandchildren, his brothers, John, Pete, and Jim, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe was an optimist to his core, with a dry, sarcastic (sometimes irreverent) sense of humor, right until the end. While he was reserved, he could always find something to talk to anyone about, and was never lost for words. He was not known to boast about his own accomplishments as a successful business owner, but would brag about his children to anyone who would listen. His family was always his first priority, whether it was traveling the world with his wife, giving his time to his sons’ Boy Scouts of America troop, grabbing lunch and chatting with his daughter Melissa, babysitting grandkids at a moment’s notice, or dropping everything to fly crosscountry to Maine to be the first to meet Vince’s son when he was born. It was a point of pride that he was able to send all five of his children to college and always made sure everyone was taken care of. Taking the grandkids to Disney World for individual quality grandparent spoiling. The first to support any plan the kids chose. When he did make time for himself, he spent much of it on his boat on Blue Mesa Reservoir where he held a reserved camping spot over the summers.
A memorial service will be held at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227 at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please send donations in his honor to Rocky Mountain Cancer Center or Sarah Cannon Research Center.
