Joseph "Joey" Chustz Obituary

Published by Seale Funeral Service - Denham Springs on May 3, 2017.
Joseph Sim Chustz, 40, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2017. Joey was a giant of a man in stature and in heart. He touched the lives of all those he came in contact with and those who were lucky enough to know him well will miss him immensely. He selflessly gave of himself to anyone that needed a helping hand and never expected anything in return. He loved playing football and excelled in every stage at his football career, from Denham Springs High School to college at Louisiana Tech where he received All American Honors, and then on to the NFL where he was drafted to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He eventually discovered his calling in life as a Coach of the game that he loved. His true love was his family, and the players whose lives he touched in the years that he coached at the school he loved, Denham Springs High School. His legacy will live on through his own family and children and through the countless young men he taught about football and about life. He was a proud member of the Denham Springs High School Hall of Fame. He spent his free time fishing and duck hunting with his father, children and friends. Joey packed a lifetime of experiences into his brief time on Earth. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Elisabeth Boone Chustz and his 3 beautiful children, Payton Elisabeth, Camden Sim, and Oliver Joseph. He is survived by his biggest fans, his parents, Leroy Joseph "Roy" Chustz and Susan Jane Bohn Chustz, as well as, his sister and brother-in-law, Jamie Lee Chustz-Felder and Christopher Page Felder, mother-in-law and father-in-law, David Bruce and Kim Martin Boone, his brother-in-law and his wife, David Joshua and Kristin Leachman Boone, sister-in-law Greta Kathleen "Katie" Boone, his nieces and nephews, Christian, Carson, Bradley, Berklee, Hazel and Jasper, several aunts, uncles and cousins, his past and current players and the entire Yellow Jacket Family. He is preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents Charles Sim Sullivan Sr. and Jeanne Marie Landry Sullivan and his paternal grandparents, his name sake, Leroy Joseph Chustz Sr. and Laura Lee Sullivan Didier Chustz. Visitation will be held at the Hornsby Gym at Denham Springs High School on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. In honor of Joey's memory, the family requests everyone to wear their purple and gold for the Yellow Jackets.

I remember me riding with Joey,Camden and Payton Chustz to school somedays.I always will remember when I would go down to my neighbor Joey's house and it would be dark outside and I would stay and help Joey hang sheetrock and sometimes Camden would come help us hang sheetrock, and after we would take a break and I would ask Joey if he wanted to go get a drink and he would always go ask your mom if you can come with me and my mom would say that's fine but you need to come back home later.Joey and I would always go to the Race Track and get us a drink and I would always get me a Coke Zero and he would get him a drink also.then we would come back to his house and continue and when he would get ready to leave I would get ready to leave before him and I would say by Joey and he would say bye and I would ask him what time are you coming back tomorrow and he would say I'll be coming back tomorrow sometime mid day or afternoon. The most I remember about Joey is when I was in school still and I would ride with him up to the school on Friday nights and help him with the football players water containers and hang out in the student section and helping him wash the players jerseys. While Joey was still I would ride with Camden and we would have to go up to the school and have a meeting for our club.

May God give the Chustz Family the comfort and peace to get through this terrible time and the days hereafter. Our son played with Joey at LaTech and we got to know most of the players. They were a big happy family and he was one with the biggest smile. ~The Procell Family, Bossier City, La.

Coach Chustz believed in me when nobody else did. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. He may be gone but be happy he is in a good place with the Lord.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Chustz family. I met Joey only once in one what were the worst of times as we rescued people from flooding waters but somehow he even brought a light side to that adventure. I will forvever remember him from that day. May he Rest In Peace and coach from above.
