Joe Kudrys was born on March 31, 1950, in Lahr, Germany. His parents, Joseph and Sofia, immigrated to America through Ellis Island in search of opportunity. They eventually settled in Chicago after Joseph accepted a position with Burlington Northern Railroad, joining friends from Poland and building a new life.
Joe grew up in Chicago, where his love for cars began at an early age. At 16, his father sold him a Buick, sparking a lifelong passion for automobiles. Joe was proud of his strong work ethic, which started with a paper route at age 10. He later worked at a card factory before beginning his career at McGraw Hill Publishing in 1967. Over the years, Joe held various roles and retired in 2003 as a Construction News Reporter.
After retiring from McGraw Hill, Joe pursued his passion for cars by working at Dan Nigri Lincoln Mercury for nearly a decade before retiring fully in 2012. In his retirement, Joe enjoyed fishing, attending car shows, caring for his home, and spending time with family, especially fishing trips with his grandchildren. He was deeply proud of his sons, Mark and Michael, and set an enduring example of integrity and dedication that lives on through them, their families and his loving wife Joan of 51 years.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sofia. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan; his sons Mark (Michelle) and Michael (Sarah); his siblings Rosemary (Dan) Stronczek, John (Marie) Kudrys, and Christine (Steve) Epstein; and his cherished grandchildren Kyle, Chloe, Cooper, Lucas, Logan, and Liam.
Joe will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for cars, and his unwavering commitment to hard work and integrity.
