KNIGHTDALE – The family of Joseph 'Joe" Baxter Langfield is saddened to have to announce the passing of their beloved grandson, son, brother and uncle at the young age of 30 this past Monday, August 26th. He was born in Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC to parents Lisa Prevatte Ryan and Paul David Langfield. Joe was employed as a Warehouse Assistant with White Cap.
Joe was a kind and gentle soul. Being a Christian man, it showed in his actions. Joe always seemed to exude a spiritual aura even as a child. Although generally quiet, he loved one-on-one conversations. Joe enjoyed gaming, reading, good food and good company. Joe was a friend to those he met and fiercely loyal to his family and friends. Joe always greeted friends and family with a big smile and hug. Joe was quick to say "I love you" to the ones he loved. Joe was a great listener and confidant. He loved family functions and family was everything to him. Joe's laugh was infectious and it always made you smile. As a child, if Joe tried to lie, he would begin to laugh and just 'fess up. Joe's passion was animals and always treated them with kindness and love. His dog Cookie was his constant companion and he loved her dearly. Although his life was cut short, he lived it to its fullest.
Joe was strong and hardworking. Joe enjoyed his job and it showed when he spoke of it. If Joe promised to do something for someone, he did it even if it cost him something. Although Type 1 Diabetes limited him and was hard on him, he never complained even though pain was mostly a constant for him.
Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew him. This world was a better place because he was in it. Now Heaven is a shade brighter because he is in it.
Joe is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Nancy Jean Rich and his maternal grandparents, Baxter Prevatte, Jr. and Jean S. Prevatte and cousin, Benjamin Aaron Prevatte.
He is survived by his parents, Lisa Ryan and Paul Langfield, his brother, Austin Hughes, his sister, Caroline Langfield (Brandon Noftsker), his niece and nephew, Faith and Carson, and his paternal grandfather, Joseph Phillip Langfield (Jerene). Also, numerous aunts and uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of research for Juvenile Diabetes towards Breakthrough TD1, PO Box 5021, Hagers, MD 21741-5021 or to The Special Olympics of North Carolina at SONC.net.
A memorial visitation will be held at 10:00-11:00 am, Saturday, September 21st 2024 at Wendell Baptist Church, Wendell, NC 27591. Memorial service will follow immediately after at 11:00 am.
Arrangements are with Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third St., Wendell.

Whenever I read an article about politics or science and wanted to talk about it, I would often think of Joe. He always had good input and knowledge about those topics. I'm going to miss those discussions. I'm sorry for your loss.
