Joseph Charles Lepscier, 64, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 18, 2023 in Aurora. Joseph was born on September 4, 1958 in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of John and Rita (Rick) Lepscier.
Joe was a devoted brother and friend, and also a highly skilled and valued employee during his working years. In the 90's, he lived in Battlement Mesa, CO and serviced the phone systems all along the western slope. He provided system repairs, upgrades, trouble shooting, and telecommunication solutions. Previously he also had similar experiences in Arlington,TX., Fairfax, VA., Wilkes-Barre,PA among other places. After leaving Colorado, Joe returned to the Chicagoland area, where he happily retired from work and spent his remaining years.
Joe had a variety of interests, including star gazing. He could identify planets and constellations easily. In his later years, he developed a strong interest in duplicate bridge. He met some of his very best friends playing bridge and he achieved the status 33 on BBO (Bridge Base Online) and the status of Bronze Life Master on ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). He was incredibly talented at wood working and carpentry. He was a gifted artist as illustrated by his "Joe's Bowls" and he has won several contests for his knitting creations. Another passion he had was his hobby of flying remote control airplanes. Amongst all of these and other talents he was a self-taught guitar player. He was loved and will never be forgotten by his family, neighbors, and friends.
Joseph is survived by his brothers and sisters, Rick Lepscier, Steven Lepscier, Joan Jesse, and Janice (David) Zweifel; cousin, Chuck Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Rita Lepscier; brother, John Lepscier, Jr.; brother in law, Michael Jesse; and sister in law, Susan Lepscier.
Celebration of Life ceremonies will take place at Beecher Community Center (908 Game Farm Rd, Yorkville Illinois 60560) September 16, 2023. There will be a bridge game 11:30-2:45 followed by a memorial service starting at 2:45.

I posted on Ravelry a knitting project and Joe commented on it...I invited him to try the sock knitting races there...and he did. He also made some bowls as gifts for the Sock madness competiton. I tested his sock pattern. Joe was a welcoming friend and wonderful to know. I am so thankful that I had some time with him online. ...oh, and I have one of the bowls!

Joe was a competitve sock knitter and participated in the annual Sock Madness event for several years. He both loved to learn and loved to help others learn. His warm advice is missed this year.

Joe Lepscier was an adventurous soul and, in his years, had resided in more prestigious regions than many folk have ever had the opportunity to visit. Good fortune allowed me to join Joe and his bud's on many a road trip.
From the Great lakes and southern Illinois, to the Great Smokey Mountains, to the Rocky Mountains and west coast. Joe professed a worldly inspiration that overflowed with old soul wisdom and a comforting charm that could befriend just about anyone.
Just wish that I could take one more road trip with you Joe, we'd put Robin Trower in the cassette deck and chat until we reached, . . well. . wherever you wanna go.

When our parkway tree died Joe took a large branch home with him. I had no idea why. Several days later he came by with a beautiful wooded bowl.
I have a Joes Bowl! I will cherish it!!
