Joseph W. Maffia

Joseph W. Maffia, 78, formerly of Summit, passed away at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair on October 21st. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave, Summit on Monday, October 26 at 10:45am. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Bradley-Brough Funeral Home, 345 Main St, Chatham on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Born and raised in Manhattan, Mr. Maffia lived in Summit for many years. He worked in the maintenance department at Runnells Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights for ten years before retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he had worked at the Grand Summit Hotel. Mr. Maffia was a friend of Bill W's for over 30 years. He was an ordained reverend father of the Western Orthodox Church in America and loved music, especially Big Band and Dixieland Jazz. Mr. Maffia was the beloved husband of Beulah. He was the loving father of Roma Maffia of California, Maurice Maffia and his wife Charlotte of Colorado, Joseph A. Maffia and his wife Mary-Joan of New York City, and daughter-in-law Gwen Maffia. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jetaun, Danyiel, Mark, Ariel, Jessica and Michelle as well as a great-grandson, Dominic.
