Joseph F. "Franny" Maland Jr., age 80, of Coal City, IL. passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
He was born on March 30, 1944 in Joliet, IL. to Joseph F. Sr. and Loretta (nee Sharp) Maland. He grew up in Coal City graduating from Coal City High School before entering the United States Army. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era. Franny married Mary Dallavia at the Assumption Catholic Church on September 27, 1969. They were blessed with one son. He retired from Caterpillar after 36 years as an inspector.
Franny was a lover of the outdoors. He spent much of his time feeding the birds and squirrels, cutting his grass and enjoying his wind chimes. He was a card player, playing the games of Golf and Euchre with his friends. He was the kind of person who gave so much to so many and asked for nothing in return. Mostly, Franny loved his grandchildren and supported them in their endeavors of band, bowling and many sports.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Maland; his son, Todd (LeAnn) Maland of Joliet; his three grandchildren, Haley, Anthony and Jackson Maland; his sister, Valerie Maland of Elburn; his dear close friend, Carol Stonecipher and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Loretta Maland.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services.
Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.ferrarifuneral.com
