Joseph Marmorale Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Macken Mortuary, Inc. - Rockville Centre on Aug. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Joseph A. Marmorale was born in Brooklyn New York on September 13, 1938 in our home on 255 Liberty Avenue. He read two sets of encyclopedias from A- Z. He recalled all that he had read. Joseph was a lifelong learner who had the ability to retain all that he read. He was able to answer all our questions. Joseph had a perpetual interest in acquiring knowledge. He was a human computer of general information. Even in the hospital he impressed the nurses with his knowledge, especially those who were foreign born.

Joseph graduated from Idaho State College in Pocatello with a major in Political Science in 1959. He served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1961-1963. He experienced the Cuban Missile Crisis being so close to the East German border. He had a career as an administrator for the New York City Department of Social Services. He worked with many interesting people. Joseph loved animals especially his beloved cat Oscar. They were in tuned to each other. In his retirement he continued his quest for knowledge and helping people in need. He was always supportive of his family and friends. Joseph was dedicated to his parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Jospeh embraced his Italian Family that he met while in service. He visited them and hosted them when they came to New York, especially the younger generation.

He was always available to support his family anytime when needed. We find ourselves reaching to contact him. We became overwhelmed with his sickness. His sickness was so sudden. We saw his decline so quickly and we tried to alleviate his pain. We were discouraged and kept trying to help him find peace. Joseph had a big heart and shared his love with family and friends. In the 38 years where he lived, neighbors and staff became extended family, and they loved him. His long-term companion of 18 years, Vianna Finch, was an accomplished classical pianist who trained in Italy. They shared each other's love of history, cooking and the arts. He was devastated by her loss in 2016.

Losing Joseph left a void in our hearts that will never be healed. He will forever be in our hearts.
