Joseph Mascera, 48, of Toms River, NJ, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Born in San Antonio, TX, he was a lifelong resident of Toms River. Joe brought adventure, humor, and creativity into the lives of everyone who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his wife Melissa Mascera of Toms River, daughter, Karina Mascera and son, Remy Mascera, both of Toms River, his father George Mascera of Toms River, and his sister Lisa Josiah Hicks of Toms River. He was predeceased by his mother Janet Mascera in 2018.
Joe had a deep passion for gardening, especially for growing hot peppers and crafting his own hot sauces - a fiery expression of his love for bold flavors and homemade traditions. He was an excellent cook who found joy in the kitchen and on the grill, especially when he could share meals and memories with his family and friends.
Joe made the decision to stay home and raise his son, embracing every moment of fatherhood. Whether racing RC cars, exploring the outdoors, or doing "all the boy things," Joe was an engaged, hands-on dad who delighted in passing on his hobbies and sense of wonder.
One of Joe's greatest joys was teaching his children about the natural world. He instilled in them a deep appreciation for nature, whether through tending a garden, walking the beach at the Jersey Shore, taking the paddle boards out onto the river, or simply enjoying the breeze on the boardwalk. He truly loved the place he called home and couldn't wait for the kids to be big enough to take them on a ride on the Poltergeist, his favorite ride on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. His spirit was vibrant and magnetic.
He was a lover of music, from the raw energy of bands like Idles and Volbeat to the soothing rhythms of Caribbean steel drums - a perfect soundtrack to his favorite vacations aboard cruise ships.
Joe's life was rich with experiences, and his legacy lives on through the memories he created with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the joy, laughter, and love he brought into the world.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 4:00pm – 7:00pm with a funeral service to be offered at 5:30pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River.

We have the pleasure of living 2 doors down from Joe and his family. He gave us a tour of the backyard which was amazing. He even gave us a few sauces to try. The pride he has for his children is awesome. The love is very deep. My girls and I will miss watching Joe and Remy going to Dels with the wagon. We are so sorry for your loss
