DUNLAP – Joseph J. Mulay IV, 64, of Dunlap, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his home.
He was born on September 28, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Rita (Plaza) Mulay III. Joseph married Mary Ann Schmitt on October 2, 1982, in Morton, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Jim Mulay.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Mulay; mother, Rita Mulay; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Schmitt and Nancy (Kevin) Dewitt; three brothers-in-law, Chris (Diane) Schmitt, David Schmitt, and Matt Schmitt; five nieces, Sarah Schmitt, McKenna Schmitt, Avalynn Schmitt, Ashlee Conover, and Kimberlee Conover; and six nephews, Michael Schmitt, Chris Schmitt Jr, Andrew Schmitt, Matthew Schmitt Jr, Joey and Jacob.
Joseph worked for PIPCO and Automatic Fire Sprinkler as a fire protection designer for 40 years. He was a member of St. Jude Church where he served as an usher.
Joseph enjoyed organizing bus trips to the Cardinal games. He was the "50/50 Guy" for Peoria Chiefs booster club for 10 years. He volunteered with the Sons of American Legion Post 1078 in Dunlap, Ill., member of the IL Police Memorial Community, Peoria County Building & Maintenance Code of Board Appeals, and a member of IL Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors and organized the Run to Remember Fallen Officers for 19 years.
A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Jude Church in Peoria, with Fr. Patrick Henehan officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at St. Jude Church in Peoria, Ill. Further visitation will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m., prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Church or IL Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) https://www.ilcops.org/show-support.
