Terry Richard Nelson, age 83, of Chillicothe, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Terry was born on October 2, 1942 in Cazanovia, IL to Richard B. Nelson and Imogene F. (Robertson) Hostetler. He married Susan M. Dominiack on February 9, 1983 in Lacon, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; his son, Matthew R. Nelson of Peoria Heights, IL; his grandsons, Matthew R. (Hanna Evans) Nelson, II of Chillicothe, IL and John Nelson of Chillicothe, IL; his great-granddaughter, Esme Rose Elizabeth Nelson; his stepbrother, James (Jody) Hostetler of Houston, TX; his half-sister, Nea Nelson of Peoria, IL; his niece, Minta Nelson and his nephews, Jeff (Ellen) Hostetler and Eric (Jen) Hostetler and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Nelson; his mother and stepfather, Imogene and Ernest Hostetler; his sons, John D. Nelson and Patrick M. Nelson; and his stepbrother, Ernie M. Hostetler Jr.
Terry graduated from Dunlap High School and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Ohio. He started as a pipe fitter and then in April of 1964, Terry and his stepfather, Ernie, started Allied Welding in Chillicothe. Terry was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chillicothe. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a pusher for the Rice Pond for over 40 years, fished in many professional walleye fishing tournaments and always looked forward to his yearly summer fishing trips with his wife to Leech Lake in Minnesota. Terry enjoyed sky diving and did over 200 jumps during his life. He was also an avid Illinois Basketball and Football fan.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11am at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Edelstein. Memorials in Terry's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
