Joe graduated from Norview High School and retired from Ford Motor Company after serving 41 years as an electrician. He owned Porter Electrical Company for 60 years where he had a reputation for integrity, reliability, and quality work.
Joe attended Talbot Park Baptist church for many years where he served as a deacon. He was a proud member of Kempsville Masonic Lodge and a member of IBEW local 80.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Jane, his children Jarith Ferris and Joely Porter, and grandchildren Kalyx Kram, Kealy Ferris, and Robert Ferris. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jannan, his brother, Gordon, and his sister, Betty and her husband, Joe.
Joe's life was marked by love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family invites you to honor Joe's memory by making a donation to Children's Inn at NIH or Edmarc Hospice.
A service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at Talbot Park Baptist Church at 11AM on Friday, November 14 followed by a reception.

I had the privilege of working with Joe in the electrical field for the last six years. He always enjoyed the challenge of confronting an electrical problem that others may have found difficult. He also treated others fairly, especially when it came to perform a service for a fee or for gratis. His big heart would always make concessions for those that were truly in need. I will truly miss Joe and his phone calls when he was lining up the days agenda. He was very caring and a believer that family and friends come first. Heaven has gained another angel that will be watching over everyone from afar, especially those that were close to his heart. Rest in peace Joe.....Kevin

Mr Porter was a dear family friend, he and my Father worked at Ford for many many years. Joe and Dad were close friends up until my Father's passing in 1987. Mr Porter would always check in on Mom as he promised my Dad he would. Mr Porter´s voice would always take me back to a time when my own Father was still alive.
He always told me to call him Joe but he was always Mr Porter to me. I never saw him without a smile. He so loved his family dearly. I will truly miss his voice and our chats. May God bless the Porter family
