Joseph (Bernie) Audet, age 74, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Enfield, CT, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Daigle Audet. Bernie was born on May 8, 1948 in Morrisville, VT to Edward and Rachael (Lehouillier) Audet. He was the 7th of 9 children, two of whom predeceased Bernie.
A farm boy from VT met a farm girl from CT, who soon became the love of his life. He was her Knight and she was his Lady, and they married within 5 months after they met. He was a man of integrity, who built his life around God, family, and country. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He was stationed in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic for a year before returning home to start a family.
Bernie was a hard-working man who spent his entire career in the HVAC field and retired in 2015. In his retirement he loved spending time with his children, and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was working in his yard, gardening, walking in the field, or just relaxing on the deck in the sun. Bernie had a passion for projects and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. He was a faithful servant to the Lord, volunteering his time at Holy Family Church. Bernie had a deep love of the Blessed Mother Mary and was a member of the Rosary Society.
In addition to his wife, Bobbie, Bernie leaves behind three children: Bernard (Bernie) Audet and his wife, Penny of Ludlow, MA, Thomas E. (Tom) Audet and his partner, Samantha Baer of Enfield, CT, Celine Cappiello and her husband, Tom of East Granby, CT. Bernie is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Evan Lang and his wife, Lauren, Tanya Catarino and her husband, Tom, Nicole Audet, Ezra & Brooke Audet, Ashley, Jacob, Aidan & Luke Cappiello. Bernie also leaves behind 6 great grandchildren: Olivia, Kinsley, Anabelle, Nolan, Bennett & Weston.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Bernie on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10:30 am in Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd. Enfield with Military Honors to follow. Interment will be at the convenience of his family in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made in Bernie's name to St. Joseph's Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082.
