Joseph P. Rigo

Joseph P. Rigo, 76, a truly loving and compassionate soul, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in South Bloomfield, OH.

Born on July 7, 1949, in Lorain, Ohio, Joseph was an adventurous spirit, who never lost his sense of humor, even in the face of adversity. His infectious laughter and quick wit brought joy to those around him, while his adventurous spirit fueled his love for exercise, jogging, bicycling, camping, and rock collecting. A devoted member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign War, Joseph displayed an unyielding dedication to service, evident in his illustrious Military career. After many years of military service he retired from the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam with the E Company 20th Infantry Long Range Patrol (Airborne) and with the U.S. Army Rangers C Company 75th Infantry. He also served in the 11th Special Forces Group Reserves (Green Beret).

Joseph carried a deep sense of pride in serving our country, a testament to his unwavering patriotism. His life revolved around his family and friends, who he loved unconditionally. His remarkable journey took him from Lorain to Pataskala, Palm Coast, Florida and finally to South Bloomfield, Ohio leaving an indelible mark everywhere he went. Joseph leaves behind an inspiring legacy of love, courage, and commitment.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon (nee Pavelschak) Rigo; sons, Paul (Wendy), Mark (Krissie), and John; beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Emily, Sophia, Luke, Jaxon, and Liliana, along with his brother, John; and sisters, Zita, Buni, Carole, Barbara, and Judy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Joseph Rigo; and sisters, Helen, Monica, Dolly, and Bernie.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio, 44052, on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 20 at 10:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 418 W 15th St, Lorain, OH 44052 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating.
