Joseph Hamblen Roediger (1938–2024) passed away at age 85 on March 3, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, due to complications from pneumonia.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph Roediger and Elizabeth Hamblen, Joe was handsome, smart, full of good humor, and a lover of life. He met his beloved first wife Elise Phillips (1937–1998) at Westfield High School in Westfield, New Jersey, enrolled at Cornell University at the age of 17 and later graduated from Lafayette College with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He completed his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law school in two years, married Elise, and moved to New York City to start a family.

In 1968, Joe and Elise headed west to Phoenix and bought a house in which to raise their three young children, John (m. Mimi Van Sohn), Andrew (m. Lori Blake), and Susan (m. Chris McDonough). The house was Joe’s favorite place in the whole world and he lived there his entire life. After a career in the coal and gas mining business, Joe established an independent patent, copyright & trademark practice Nelson and Roediger.

After the death of Elise, Dad had the good fortune to meet Rosemary Tinker, whom he married in 2014. They enjoyed many good times together and she cared for him throughout his long battle with cancer. He is survived by his spouse, his three children, eight grandchildren (Stanwood, Malcolm, Clare, Elise, Mary, Jay, Ted, and Virginia), his brother and sister-in-law John and Martha Roediger of Maine, their two sons, Frederick and Daniel, and his stepson Jake Tinker.

The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to Ryan House (https://ryanhouse.org/ (https://ryanhouse.org/)), whose staff administered such excellent care and kindness to Joe in his final days.
