Joseph Romano (March 3, 1939-September 9, 2024)
Joseph Romano, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 85. He lived a long, happy life, surrounded by cherished family and friends. He was married to his loving wife, Helen, for 54 years, when she predeceased him in 2016.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 3, 1939, where he was raised by his Italian immigrant parents Biagio and Maria Romano. He graduated from New York School of Printing, and served two years in the U.S. Army before embarking on a career in printing. He moved to Staten Island in 1969, and later worked as a construction inspector at Giorgio Engineering.
He was a tireless worker who instilled a very strong work ethic in his three sons, and who was never happier than when spending his free time in the company of family and friends, watching sports, and enjoying a great meal and drinks. One of his greatest gifts was his ability to make people laugh, and to feel good about themselves. He also enjoyed long walks along the water at Gateway National Recreation Area, crabbing on the New Jersey shore, and he became an excellent cook later in life.
He is survived by his sons Joseph (Noreen) and Keith, his sister Frances Capone, and his beloved grandchildren Alexander (Danielle), Audrey, Ada Hunsberger (Brian), Matteo, Antonio, Christopher, Sophia, and Vanessa, great-grandson Leo, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Helen, he was predeceased by his son Christopher (Melanie), by his granddaughter Isabella, and by his brother-in-law Daniel Capone.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 2:00pm-6:00 pm at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, with a service starting at 5:30.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Joseph's memory.
