It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Joseph M. Rusin, 53, of Columbus, who departed this life on April 18th, 2025. Joseph was born on December 21, 1971 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Michael James Vanvolkenburg and Mary Louise Rusin (Laurent).
Joe's life journey was a complex one, leaving an undeniable impact on those who knew him, especially his former wife, Carissa, their combined 5 children, and close family and friends. From the intricacies of his life, we will continue to draw valuable understanding. Joe's life underscores the significance of introspection and personal responsibility. It highlights the idea that our individual truths profoundly shape our lives and our connections with those around us. His memory encourages us to reflect on the importance of self-awareness and the continuous efforts needed to understand ourselves and our impact on others. While his physical presence is gone, the lessons gleaned from him remain, prompting us to consider the power each of us holds in shaping our own paths and the nature of our relationships. His soul is free from the trials of this earth and his body, sick, no more.
To commemorate the life of Joseph and in accordance with the wishes of his loved ones, cremation was chosen as a respectful and lasting tribute to his memory
Survivors include his mother, Mary Rusin; sons, Cameron Jacob Rusin, Michael Joseph Vanvolkenburg, and Stephen Andrew Rusin; daughters, Amaiyah Nicole Rusin and Ashley Elizabeth Johnson; and sister, Tammy Monk.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Vanvolkenburg; step-father, Stephen Fred Rusin; and brother Stephen Fred Rusin II.
Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
