Joseph Paul Serra of Thiells, New York peacefully passed away on September 13, 2024 with his family by his side at the age of 83.
He was born in Bronx, New York on January 5, 1941. He was the son of the late Joseph Serra and Clare Vaccaro.
He attended Evander Childs High School where he met the love of his life, Gloria at age 15.
In 1969 Gloria and Joe moved to Thiells where they raised their three sons.
Joe worked at Pandick Press in New York City for over 30 years as a computer technician and then for AT&T in Parsipanny, New Jersey for the remainder of his career.
Joe was a hard worker who juggled the responsibility of his career, completing projects around the house as well as being present for all of his family's activities.
Joe was an avid racquetball player who played well into his 70's.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his four grandchildren.
In his latter years he bravely faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, of 62 years, his sons Joseph (Bill), John (Kate), Paul (Sheri), his grandchildren James, Nina, Kaelyn and Kieran, his siblings Cookie, Jim (Andrea), Gary and Gina (Pat).
Family will receive friends and family on Thursday, September 19 from 4PM-8PM at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY 10923. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 20 at 9:30AM at St. Peter's Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY 10927, followed by interment at Mount Repose Cemetery, Routes 202 and 9W Haverstraw, NY 10927.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that you make donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
